CaigerandCo • Feb 18, 2015

We’re very excited to be creating a literary – themed supperclub in the beautiful library at the Bush Theatre in Shepherd’s Bush on the 5th & 6th March .

Here’s the menu, which will be the same for each night & is priced at £35.

You have filled my tea with lumps of sugar, and though I asked most distinctly for bread and butter, you have given me cake. I am known for the gentleness of my disposition, and the extraordinary sweetness of my nature, but I warn you, Miss Cardew, you may go too far.

Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest

“Wouldn’t it be dreadful to live in a country where they didn’t have tea?”

S amuel P epys 4th Sept 1666

Wild mushroom arancini with parmesan

“And in the evening Sir W. Pen and I did dig another, and put our wine in it; and I my Parmazan cheese, as well as my wine and some other things. “

Starter

Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest

Smokey Jerusalem artichoke salad, crispy buttered muffins, endive and feta

“How you can sit there, calmly eating muffins when we are in this horrible trouble, I can’t make out. You seem to me to be perfectly heartless.”

“Well, I can’t eat muffins in an agitated manner. The butter would probably get on my cuffs. One should always eat muffins quite calmly. It is the only way to eat them.”

Main – Eating Peter Rabbit

Beatrix Potter – Peter Rabbit

Rabbit leg with chorizo, butter bean purée & caramelised onion

“Once upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were–Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter.”

“It is said that the effect of eating too much lettuce is ‘soporific’.”

Dessert Chamber of Sweet Shops

J.K.Rowling – Harry Potter

A surprise

“Creamy chunks of nougat, shimmering pink squares of coconut ice, fat, honey-coloured toffees; hundreds of different kinds of chocolate in neat rows; there was a large barrel of Every Flavour Beans, and another of Fizzing Whizzbees, the levitating sherbet balls … along yet another wall were ‘Special Effects’ sweets: Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum … the strange, splintery Toothflossing Stringmints, tiny black Pepper Imps (‘breathe fire for your friends!’), Ice Mice (‘hear your teeth chatter and squeak!’), peppermint creams shaped like toads (‘hop realistically in the stomach!’), fragile sugar-spun quills and exploding bonbons.”
