Mad about radishes!

CaigerandCo • Apr 30, 2016

It’s so important for us to work with great suppliers who have the same ethos as us. We believe in sourcing quality seasonal and local ingredients from artisan producers, to ensure we can offer the best menus for your event or party.

Natoora is our go-to supplier for a wonderful array of seasonal fruit and veg. They specialise in offering varieties that you wouldn’t always expect to see and we love finding out all about the latest thing to hit the shop. This month we’re loving their radishes!

The number of different types of radishes is nearly endless with them coming in all shapes and sizes. They also come in a spectrum of colours ranging from red to pink, white, green and even black. Common types of radish include White Icicle, Sparkler, Cherry Belle, White Beauty and French Breakfast, to name but a few. There are also some less common varieties of radish such as Easter Egg and Watermelon. Yes these really are types of radish! With their brightly coloured exterior and crispy white inside, not only are radishes a beautiful root vegetable, but they have lots of crunch and a hot peppery taste to back it up. Despite their heat, radishes are very delicate and are best eaten raw. They are a fabulous addition to a summer salad as they add a touch of heat and a great texture, as well as being a lovely looking garnish. They also work very well as a side to a fish dish such as baked trout, sliced thinly and served with capers, fennel, rocket and a squeeze of lemon juice.

The additional bonus is that they are rich in folic acid and potassium and are a good source of vitamin B6, magnesium, riboflavin, and calcium.
